October 6, 2022 – Featherlite Trailers recently partnered with The University of Michigan Solar Car Team by providing a customized Model 4410 car trailer to the team for their solar vehicle and equipment.

Every two years, the team races a solar-powered vehicle entirely designed and manufactured by students in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. For the rest of the time, they are participating in competitions with other teams across America.

Their current solar car, Aevum, is the team’s 16th solar car, and their 2022 race crew is comprised of 20 of the team’s members. This past summer, the team participated in the Michigan Sun Run, a 3,000 mile journey across the country traveling from New Jersey to California.

Featherlite’s Model 4410 car hauler, which is transporting their solar vehicle, features a spread axle design, flat nose and rear spoiler, along with a rear ramp and side door. The trailer was customized with a ramp extension, recessed airliner track, race ramps, cabinets and white lining. The trailer also had a custom walk-through door and wall to create a separate storage area at the front of the trailer.

The Michigan Solar Car Team aspires to lead change by advocating for sustainable technology and bolstering youth engagement in STEM. With more than 100 students from schools and colleges across the university, it’s one of the largest student organizations on campus. The team has nine American Solar Challenge championship titles and seven Bridgestone World Solar Challenge podium finishes. In 2019, they finished third at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.
